CANCELLATION OF BOARD EXAMINATIONS 2021: Time to ‘Celebrate’ or ‘Cogitate’

Cancellation of Board Examinations 2021

Hey, Guys..!!

Finally, the ambiguity subsides, and the fate of Board Examinations 2021 has been sealed. The examinations have been cancelled for class 10 and class 12 for both CBSE and ICSE boards. The government stressed that the health and safety of students are of utmost importance and there will be no compromise in that aspect. There was celebration among the students, as the majority of them were in favour of cancellation of the examinations, but there were few students who did not seem to be satisfied with the decision and were worried about the fairness of the proposed scoring criteria. So, keeping in mind the concerns of all the students, the board gave them, an option to appear for the examinations that can be conducted, as the situation gets better. Overall, not many things change for class 10 as they will get promoted to class 11 where they can continue with what was supposed to be the next step. One piece of advice for class 10 students will be to stick to the concepts you learnt, especially of the field you decide to choose, which will help you in the long run.

After class 10, it’s celebration time for class 12. The long-awaited decision regarding the conduct of the class 12 board exam for both CBSE and ISC was out, and examinations for the academic year 2021, were called off on 1 June 2021. Social media got flooded with celebratory memes and tweets. Finally, students stuck between the dilemma about the happening of the exam could relax for some time. Studying online for the whole year and then appearing for the offline examinations, seem a bit unfair, and hence was one of the major concerns among the students. Confusion regarding whether to keep studying for the Board Examinations or move on with what stood next in front of them was the question in everyone’s mind. In the middle of an ongoing pandemic, where a lot of families had to deal with the inconvenience regarding finances, health issues, and much more, the mental stability of children got sacrificed, hence conduct of examination is what was out of the majority of student priority lists.

But every decision has both pros and cons, so has this one.

PROS:

  • Since the marking system will be based on the scores achieved in the previous classes, we can say that consistency paid off. Students who were always hardworking and serious about their studies may get an advantage here.
  • Not many things change for students who are going to appear for competitive examinations.
  • If you are not satisfied with the marking scheme, there is an option for appearing for examinations later, still in the scenario.
  • If universities hold their entrance examination, there are chances it will be field-specific, thus students can focus on gathering knowledge about the field that they want to pursue in the future.
  • An examination does not remain the only criteria for the determination of talent and knowledge.
  • It is all about competitive examinations as you go for your higher education in your career. Appearing for entrance examinations for admission in universities will make you future-ready.
  • It can be a great opportunity to showcase your true potential.

CONS:

  • Score calculation criteria for class 12 may not be appealing to everyone. It may be unfair for many students to calculate scores based on their performance in the previous classes.
  • Students who were preparing throughout this time may feel a bit let down as their efforts will go unrecognized.
  • Everyone may not be comfortable with the idea of entrance examinations for admission in colleges, although it is necessary for this condition.
  • Students planning to get admission to international universities may face issues.

Since the decision already has been taken, there is no looking back. We should accept it and go ahead with the new opportunities waiting for us. Students preparing for competitive examinations like JEE, NEET, and others, should keep preparing. After the cancellation of examinations, there is plenty of time for focusing on these competitive examinations. Students who want to take up admissions into different universities and have their field of interest already decided can keep gathering knowledge related to it. Explore the possibilities of that particular field you are choosing and build skills related to it. Students are yet to decide which field they want to make their career in, they have got plenty of time to think about the same. Choose wisely, focus on your strengths and interests and go for it. One thing that is for sure that this decision has the power to bring revolution into the education system, which was more exam-oriented than skill-oriented.

We have always heard a statement from many students that: “A piece of paper cannot decide my future”, so now there is the chance to prove your true worth and claim your success. Celebration on cancellation of examination is fine but it is also important to think deeply about future prospects. Make choices which suits you the best. Focus on building skills, take up free online courses, indulge in achieving experiences, be more familiar with technology, know the demand of the upcoming era and try to include them in your skillset, and much more. It is just a mere exam that has been canceled, there is still much more to look forward to.

So, Cheer Up! Stay healthy, stay safe, keep yourself calm and start working on yourself. Take care of yourself and your loved ones.

And remember, a lot of opportunities are waiting for you.
